I decided to ride my bike to work even though the humidity and heat threatened to top 32 degrees by the middle of the day. Morning rides are great anyways because it is still cool enough to be comfortable. The only nasty drawback was being stuck beside a garbage truck I thought I could pedal a little quicker when the traffic slowed along Oxford St and get ahead of the smell..but then the truck would catch up to me. Every breath I took, and I took many since I am not in shape, tasted like sewer. I could not wait to get to the path into Harris Park that day and breath in the fresh smell of trees and the river..yes even the river smelled better than a garbage truck. When I rode along the river I spotted 2 turtles sitting on a rock...this shows just how slow I was riding. One was much bigger than the other, so maybe mom and baby sunning themselves, and around them swam some really large carp. There were also about 5 families of geese on the path, with goslings at different stages of growth. I thought if I rang the little bell on my handle bars the geese would clear out of the way. It turns out they don't use the same rules of the road as cyclists and I had to ride around them.
The ride home was so hot and stuffy that I changed my route and decided to try riding through the cemetary.
The hill up Riverside Dr to Mount Pleasant cemetary was impossible for me at this point so I walked . But once inside the cemetary it's mostly coasting downhill and nice and shady. It's also one of the few places in London where you don't get approached by panhandlers for change.
